Most of us are blissfully unaware of the toxins which circulate in our homes.

I have a PhD in architectural history. I have written two books and numerous articles in magazines and journals. My ideas ‘How healthy is your home’ were published as a lead article for Elle Decoration magazine in 2016, featuring on their front cover. My research interest for many years has been the connection between health and the building materials used in our homes. Older buildings used natural materials which breathe; they were not particularly airtight and people were not in the main inhaling anything toxic. Some enlightened doctors in Europe, as part of their investigations into a health problem, now investigate the home environment. Why don’t you make 2022 the year where you consciously switch to using building products which are healthy for you and for the planet? More research is needed into the cocktail effect of the toxins and chemicals which currently outgas in our buildings. If you opt for natural building products you become an influencer, and play a part in the global changes we need to make . Now seems the right time to incorporate deep respect for nature and the planet into every action we take. I’ve built one Healthy House - with totally natural materials - and the second one starts this year. Watch out for the new healthy house build on Instagram, hopefully by late spring.
